Omnichannel Marketing vs. Multichannel Marketing

What is the difference between multichannel and omnichannel marketing strategies? Most companies see omni-channel marketing to be the same as multichannel marketing, but they are two very different strategies.

Why Multichannel Marketing is not the same as Omnichannel Marketing

Many companies are stuck in a multichannel marketing strategy. These companies put call strategies on one campaign, social media strategies on a separate strategy, and even keep e-commerce on yet another strategy. In other words, every department or goal is independent of the other, similar to swim lanes in a pool. Each swim lane creates a different customer experience. Traditionally, this was good. Not anymore.

Why Multichannel Marketing is Outdated

The customer is becoming increasingly more savvy. Omni-channel marketing looks at the entire customer experience as a whole. With many options available to the customer, we need to rely on building a global experience. This takes time and may present itself as challenging. But I can assure you, it is worth taking the time to create it.

Benefits of an Omni-Channel Marketing Strategy

  • Works to build the brand pre-sale.
  • Works to build trust during the sale.
  • Works to build referrals post-sale.
  • It repurposes content to save time.
  • It keeps customers coming back.
  • It builds brand evangelists.
  • Increases Customer Retention.
  • Overall, it is what’s right for the customer!

Omni-Channel Marketing Strategy

Imagine a customer is in your store looking at a product on the shelf. After holding it, trying it on, and reading the box, they may feel inclined to pull out their phone and look at reviews or text a friend about the specific model or product. They may begin to price hunt or search popular e-commerce platforms. This customer may even buy the item online and leave the product on the shelf right infront of them in order to see a greater benefit or gain. Such as avoiding tax or shipping it to a specific location for an event etc.

Sales Grow Across the Board with Omni-Channel Marketing Strategies

Omni-Channel Marketing Strategies register sales as a global figure or endeavor. When a brand is working at a trade show, they may have only a few sales during the show. But they may see a spike in sales on e-commerce sites during or following the show. This is becoming very common. Multichannel Marketing Strategies would view the trade show as unsuccessful, as they quickly move strategies and ad spends online, considering the recent spike in online sales. But they fail to put into consideration the buying habits of their customers.

What are you doing today to create an Omni-Channel Marketing Experience for your customers? Are you losing sales or overspending marketing dollars on pointless campaigns?
